If you’re new here, every month I share how I’m doing with my goals for the year. This includes personal, blogging/business, and of course financial goals. This post holds me accountable to the goals I set every year, but more importantly, it helps my readers to see that having financial goals in place are the key to succeeding with money. If you need help setting financial goals, make sure you read this post here on the steps to setting financial goals.

Soldier of Finance: Take Charge of Your Money and Invest in Your Future
What I read:
Soldier of Finance: Take Charge of Your Money and Invest in Your Future by Jeff Rose – I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I hated that he mentioned that “credit cards are a necessity” because my family is living proof, that no, no they are not a necessity (you can read more about us not having any credit cards here). But I did love the way he broke down how to achieve your financial goals. He did it in a way that I had never heard anyone else talk about before – maybe because he was using his military background to speak from, but regardless, it was great advice and that advice alone is a reason to read this book. 🙂

Oh, dear, Jessi. I hear you on the crying! I was thrilled to have hit 100,000 pvs last year and now I’m at half of that. Here’s to diversifying our blog income (so it’s not dependent ever on traffic) and to not obsessing over traffic. Well, that’s what I’m TRYING to do! 🙂 Happy 1st birthday to Charlotte. Adorable cake pictures!
My pageviews dropped terribly from beginning of the year over 150K to barely above 30K! And yes, I did cried too! I will check out Jeff’s book see how that goes now that you mentioned the credit cards. 🙂 Happy 1st Birthday Charlotte!
You are so inspirational! I am inspired every time I read a blog post! I am a budgeter and love it, so I’m amazed at how many other ideas I’ve gotten from you!
Those other hundreds of thousands of people are missing out because your blog rocks!
I keep coming back to the book suggestions on your goal pages when I need something to read.
I think page views are down across the board. Don’t fret too much.
Congrats on a good month. And happy birthday to Charlotte!!
I recently found your blog from Pinterest and I love it. It reminds me of old school MoneySavingMom. (I miss all the money saving posts Crystal used to have…)
I haven’t had a chance to read through your archives yet, but have you talked anywhere about your really low mortgage balance and how that came about? Did you buy a fixer upper or pay down debt aggressively? Just curious. 🙂
Dara, I think that is the nicest compliment anyone has ever given me! 🙂 Thank you so much! 🙂
You know, I haven’t really talked about the whole mortgage thing in a post yet…I’ll add that to my list of post ideas! But we bought a fixer upper. My husband is a contractor so the majority of the repairs he did himself and we saved nearly $30,000 before we purchased the house to do the repairs and remodel with. And then we’ve also throw extra money here and there towards over the years. Nothing super systematic just like a bonus check or tax refund check.
