The most often questions I receive when I tell someone that I use essential oils is “how do you use essential oils while pregnant” and “what are some essential oils for pregnancy”? Now, of course I am not a doctor and you should always talk to your doctor before taking or using anything while pregnant but I wanted to share with you want I use and how I them while being pregnant.

Life 5
Okay, this is not really an essential oil but I love this stuff! Let’s just say that one of the most common aliments of pregnancy (ya know, the going to the bathroom one…) is completely gone for me with this pregnancy and I attribute it to taking this probiotic every day.
In fact, my midwife told me that there is researching going on to determine if taking a probiotic while pregnancy will reduce the potential for preterm labor. Now, I have big babies that like to go all the way and over their due dates, so preterm labor is not something that I’m personally concerned about but if that is something that you are worried about, speak to your doctor about taking a probiotic alongside your prenatal.
Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint
These three oils combined make-up what is referred to as the “allergy bomb” and I can you that they work wonders for seasonal allergies. I cannot take allergy medication while pregnant due to a serious reaction I had during my first pregnancy, but using these three oils helps to keep me from suffering Georgia’s infamous “pollen wave”.
You can diffuse these or blend them together to wear on your wrist all day long. Due to bees, I prefer to just diffuse mine but nevertheless, it works like a charm!
Peppermint and Thieves
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have read that my boys were fighting off one heck of a cold a couple of weeks ago. Diffusing peppermint and thieves all day and putting the diffuser in their room is literally the only way anyone in my house slept. Trust me, it will open up your sinuses for sure!
Look at how cute and well-rested we were before we had kids….(pregnant with our oldest in this pic)
Lavender and Lemongrass
I have a hernia.
Okay there I admitted it and I hate admitting it. I actually sustained the hernia while pregnant with my second child but after I gave birth, all signs and symptoms of the hernia went away and honestly, I just completely forgot about it. That was until I started showing with this pregnancy and started experiencing pain.
Since I’m pregnant, no surgeon will do surgery on me to fix the hernia so I have no choice but to wear a support band (I’m using this one from Belly Bandit) and to try to find natural ways of dealing with the pain. This essential oils blend has worked wonders for me! I found the recipe in my reference guide * and use it every day to help alleviate the pain I’m feeling from a growing belly (and likely 10 pound baby).
Lemon
I use this essential oil every day. I put three drops in my water first thing in the morning (even before having coffee) and even mix it with my bedtime tea (chamomile mixed with honey and lemon essential oil). I even add it to our homemade cleaners!
Melrose
This is the oil that changed my hubs’ opinion on essential oils. He was suffering from an ear infection and was just flat-out miserable. I put two drops of Melrose in his ear and the pain went away. The ear infection still had to heal naturally on its own (it was a viral infection not bacterial), but he was able to relieve his pain all day but putting two drops of Melrose in his ear. This is my go-to oil for pains.
Cedarwood
Okay, I’m not currently using this one but I thought it was one that should mention. This oil helps with the crazy post-partum hair loss saga. If you are pregnant for the first time, trust me the hair loss that can happen after you have a baby is crazy and saddening. Thankfully, Cedarwood helps to keep your hair from falling out in droves and my hubs’ actually uses it now in place of Rogaine. I will tell you that if you have oily hair (like myself), this will be a challenge for you – putting more oil in your hair….
Frankincense
One of my favorite oils! I use Frankincense for rashes on myself and one my boys. Works wonders for relieving the “itch” associated with rashes and helped my Conner when he got poison ivy all over him.
These are just some of the oils that I use regularly and love! If you are interested in learning more about essential oils, feel free to ask me in the comments or email me! Or, if you are interested in purchasing oils, you can head here will I detail out how you can purchase oils and get some awesome bonuses for yourself!

There is an essential oil for post-partum hair loss?? I use a few essential oils, but have not ventured past a few. But next time I am pregnant…that will be first oil I buy. Oh…it’s shocking. Especially as I do not have thick, beautiful hair to begin with
That picture of you and your hubby is cute. I love how you mentioned how well-rested you are. So true. You THINK that you are tired before you have kids…and then once you have kids you figure out how silly that thinking was. 😉
I never lost my hair, Emily. I lost my mind, but not my hair.
I heard a radio personality say once that everything you say pre-kids, about sex, you say post-kids, about sleep. “I had the best sleep last night. Yeah, you wouldn’t believe how good it was, it just went on and on for hours, it was amazing!”
Bahahahhahaha!!!!! So true Becca! I would pay to get a full night’s rest at this point. 🙂
Hahahhaa, yes! I thought I was so exhausted before having Conner and now I’m like, yeah….. 🙂 I love using the Cedarwood oil for postpartum hair loss but I will tell you that it’s a stinky so I put it on at night and then wash it out in the morning because my hair is super oily naturally anyhow. :-/
Thanks for the warning about the smell. Although in the exhausted postpartum stages, I have a feeling that would be the least of my worries. 😉
Hi!
Love the info. about oils, I’m currently 30 weeks and LOVE essential oils! Could you tell me how you use the cedar wood in your hair? I currently put a drop or two of tea tree oil in my shampoo blob on my hand before I lather, could I do the same with cedar wood?
Thanks!
Hi Toni! You could add cedarwood oil to your shampoo (a lot of folks do), the only reason I don’t is because I have oily hair so it would be too much for my hair to take. 🙂
Looking for advice on essentials for pregnancy for back pain. Any thoughts?
Hi Cayla! For me, I used Valor and Deep Relief by Young Living for my back pain, but sometimes just a heating pad worked when the pain wasn’t severe. I hope this helps!
